Our Goals
We consider the development of our car to be an enriching learning experience and a great way to build bridges between Illinois State University and the central Illinois community.
Our main goals are to:
- Complete the 2005 North American Solar Challenge race in the top half of the finishing pack.
- Create public awareness of feasible applications of renewable resources.
- Promote an environmentally friendly approach to energy efficiency.
- Promote the kind of forward-looking technology required to meet society’s energy challenges.
- Provide an opportunity for students from different disciplines to work together, recognizing that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
- Give students the chance to tackle a project whose scale requires effective teamwork and the support of people and organizations outside their institution.
- Promote our sponsors as organizations who actively promote a strong economy and a clean environment by supporting the education of students who will one day be the stewards of both.
Achievability of the goal : Our first goal is an ambitious one for a first-time team. In the last race, only 12 of 20 entered cars completed the full distance. We have our work cut out for us.
How we will achieve our goal : With a dedicated and creative team, a pre-qualified car body, and a lot of hard work and cooperation.
