Solar car racing is a complicated and often expensive venture. The car uses an array of solar cells to generate electrical current, which is then fed either to the motor or to a bank of batteries. The batteries are needed, of course, for shady areas, cloudy days, or any time the car needs more power than is being generated at the moment by the solar cells. Like any race car, Mercury I will also go through several sets of racing tires. These items, though not too expensive on a per-unit basis, add up to a significant cost when their total numbers are considered. The team also needs tools and other miscellaneous gear (a supply of Rain-X, just to give an example), and of course during the race, we'll need gas for the chase vehicles, food for us, and a place to sleep. If you'd like to give any amount, small or large, to help offset these costs, please click the icon below to make an online donation. Donors will recognized on the team website, unless anonymity is requested. Thanks!
